Creating Art that Gives Back

I started my Nature in Crisis series (images below) in 2017 to celebrate the environment and bring attention to global climate change, while at the same time pay homage to and re-vision the master artworks by The Group of Seven, the closely associated Tom Thomson, and honorary Group of Seven member, Emily Carr.

As a narrative with this work, I'm showing how in the fast-paced zeitgeist of contemporary society, we do not take the time to see and
value nature, but instead pass by it in hurried, blurred fashion, ignoring all the warning signs that nature is in crisis. Structure and form are less visible, and are more a fleeting sense of colour and abstract chaos. The chaos serves as a reminder of how we ignore and mistreat nature at our peril. The steadfast environmentalist David Suzuki, Godfrey Reggio's 'Koyaanisqatsi' and Edward Burtynsky's 'Manufactured Landscapes' serve as inspiration for this series.

50% of all sales from my 'Nature In Crisis' series
is being donated to the David Suzuki Foundation.

My exploration of Shreddings began almost 3 decades ago. In conversation with the works around them, various pieces interrogate the relationship between newsprint/tabloid, first editions, and foundational values like freedom, democracy, equality, commodification, and security in socio-cultural narratives.
